Valuable info for patients and clinicians
I really enjoyed this book. Easy to read and understandable. A great resource for patients dealing with chronic pain generators. Also, a great reference for physicians who help these patients.
This one is for Every Body
This book tackles a complex subject (the human body) and, through clever analogies, explains concepts in an extremely accessible manner. It’s witty and clever. It’s a cover-to-cover and a handy reference book. It’s a grasp-a-concept and a dig deeper reference. It’s a book that’s worth reading now, but also one you’ll want on your bookshelf when you struggle with your body in the future.
A good physician will accurately diagnose you and treat you accordingly. A great physician will do all that but also ensure you are fully in the loop with understanding your problem, your treatment and what to expect throughout the process. This book is clearly written by a great physician. Read it if you have a body, particularly if you have one that isn’t fully cooperating. Read it if you’re injured, if you have chronic pain, if you want to quit smoking or lose weight, if you’re anxious or depressed. Read it if you’re just not getting better. Or read it if you just want to understand better how your body works.
I have been camping this last week and finally took the time to read your book. Sorry for not getting to it earlier. I wanted to let you know that I thought it was excellent. The ideas are great. The stories and anecdotes are entertaining. I think for certain of my patients this will be a very worthwhile resources. Great job!
Injured, in pain, frustrated, lost…a must read!
I read this and thought, wow, he wrote this about me. As I was reading I kept thinking, ok that makes so much sense, but now what do I do? By the end Dr. Barnsdale has addressed those questions and more. This is the only book I have read since dealing with pain for years that has made me feel hopeful and helped to realistically explain what was going on and help to set a course for things I could do to help myself. Highly recommend.
Everybody hurts is a good title
This is an excellent book for helping to understand how the body works. It's explained in simple, sometimes amusing terms and short chapters to aid concentration. I've recommended it to clients at my chair based and standing exercise classes and one client immediately ordered two copies to be able to lend out. The illustrations also help, along with Chris' humour.
Great Book!
As I read the book, I realized there are some basic fundamental concepts which are not emphasized in our regular medical school curriculum that is essential to understanding the most common reasons to patient come to the hospital: pain. But thanks to Dr. Barnsdale, with his unique way of making things very easy to understand, these concepts are very well explained.
Excellent book to better understand our bodies.
I love the stories the author uses to explain the body. The explanations are so simple for something so complex. I have already told 5 people to go buy this book! Easy and fun to read!!!!
Educational Book
Dr. Barnsdale’s book is fantastic. It provides a clear and comprehensive description of what pain is, additionally the book includes information to help you live your life as pain free as possible and improve your quality of life.
A valuable book for everyone to read to improve there understanding of the human body and pain!
Great read, very informative. This book is a delightful read.
Lots of information in a very succinct and easy to understand format. It’s not overdone with medical jargon and complicated diagrams. The illustrations are cute and adorable and the information is superb. As the author says… “ No pain, no gain, but don’t overtrain!”
Highly recommend this book to people who have any kind of chronic pain or are experiencing more pain then they are used to as they get older.
Understandable and useful
I've read Dr. Barnsdale's book cover to cover three times now. Dr. Barnsdale explains the What and the Why in easily-understood layman's terms. Most importantly-- he gives you the How. How to use this information to benefit your body and your life.
The book is densely packed with information, explanations, and illuminating real-life examples drawn from his many years of patient care. Keep going- the last couple chapters brilliantly bring the entire concept together.
THE INFORMATION AND HUMOUR IS FANTASTIC!
Dr. Barnsdale is my doctor so I bought his book at one of my appointments. The book is as informative and humorous as the man who wrote it. I highly recommend reading the book and if you're fortunate enough to live close and need a phenomenal Doctor who goes above and beyond to help , go see him. Thank you Dr. Barnsdale for being THE best Doctor/human being out there.
Must read
Excellent resource for anyone dealing with pain. Dr Barnsdale’s personal and relatable stories grabs the readers attention. I highly respect Dr. Barnsdale for taking on this challenge of writing this book to share with the world. I have seen Dr. Barnsdale interact with his patients and the level of care he provides is superior. Writing this book proves his commitment to his patients. It provides information which can potentially improve their health and activities of daily living. Excellent job Dr. Barnsdale. Thank you for everything you do
Excellent!!
This helped me understand my pain in a way no doctor (other than Dr Barnsdale) could explain it to me before. Now that I understand what is going on I finally feel like I can start working on getting better instead of just putting on bandaids. Thanks doc for making Christmas gifts easy for me this year. Everyone is getting a copy!
A guide to practical physiology or a operators manual to the greatest self healing machine ever
Dr Barnsdale has treated me for a chronic pain.
We agree on what are hard sciences and what isn't; so his book is an excellent introduction to a complicated and poorly understood area where few can look at the whole picture. Just the same way you should write out your case history and submit it you visit a specialist, the specialist has now written out the guidelines he must examine to help you.
The five minutes it takes a specialist to read your own version of your case history saves much time and error potential as your taking a few hours to understand why a doctor would give you seemingly foolish advice that is the only practical solution.
Remember as we progress through popular opinion we progress from SCIENCE with hard laws, to Non-SCIENCE when the so called scientific method stands in for laws, to NONSENSE which you see by tv health experts to SEANCE currently practiced by our so called medical leaders and Dr Barnsdale sticks to facts.
At the beginning it seems a bit trivial but take note, he is hitting the very important areas that become clear at the end. as an example, when it comes to weight loss, the fasting is more important than people know as I have worked on this problem a few times but a large volume could be written on it and its effects so I am a big proponent of a proper three day fast every once in a while.
Why would an orthopedic trained doctor that deals with pain management worry about weight, take your teenage weight and subtract your current weight and go out and buy the difference in weights in one pound blocks of lard. It will give you a visualization of how much unnecessary weight you carry around while overloading everything from the musculoskeletal system to the internal organs esp liver heart and kidneys and this is only one aspect.
This book is a self help guide/owners manual to the greatest healing machine ever invented.
Very informative

Very easy to read and understandable!
Dr Barnsdale has been my Orthopedic physician for the last few years. He is very thorough kind, and puts me at ease… His words are always positive and encouraging! ‘You are just as important as anyone else. Do t give up on trying to get a family physician.’ I’m so happy to have his book… it’s written in lay terms, although I am a retired nurse. He’s encouraged me to try golfing again, despite labral tears, OA, fibro bilateral bursitis etc. Eat the healthiest food you can, be your lightest weight, and so many other good tips, because as he says in his book, we only get one body!! I had totally given up on my body and was so discouraged but I really feel helped and appreciate that Dr Barnsdale ordered a bone scan, blood work X-rays.. etc… he is very thorough and compassionate. I finally feel helped and am enjoyed the book!! Thank you!!

A great read for anyone!
As someone who works with Dr. Barnstable I see the care and attentiveness he gives each patient and that has shown clearly in this book. Giving us all a chance to get some answers for those questions we’ve had or have! Not to mention being able to actually understand it as a non doctor is refreshing - this book gives insight, character and answers! Not to mention adorable doodles!!
Great straightforward book
Dr Barnsdale has written a very helpful easy to read book. In my late 40s most of my friends have parts of their bodies that hurt fairly regularly. I’d love to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible and this book has loads of tips about recovery and healing and how to cope with longer term problems. I’ve recommended it to multiple friends already.
Good Read!
Excellent book, easy to get through, points are well explained with great analogies. Very informative.
Great Book
Excellent read. Thoroughly enjoyed. Easy to understand concepts.
It's in layman's' terms easy to understand
Dr Barnsdale did a great job of "dummying it down" so it is easy to get the message. Not a lot of medical lingo.
Great book
5 Star Book
It was written by a Dr who used lay English which was much easier to understand. It does take some deep thinking to wrap your head around some of the concepts.
Effective communication of technical information for layperson
Well written and organized for explaining how our bodies deal with pain and its treatment. Entertaining illustrations and a reasonable price as well.
Very informative!
This book has been an excellent source of information in helping me understand what is happening to my hip. It helps in communicating with your doctor given the different scenarios described. The methods of dealing with osteoarthritis are clearly described and helps you develop a plan. Thank you Dr. Barnsdale!
Easy Reading
This book is so easy to understand. The doctor explains simply why things hurt and makes suggestions on how to deal with the body and associated pains.
I'd really love to hear from you!
