About the book

A book about getting better.

  • Why the $%#@ am I in pain?
  • Can you tell me what’s wrong with me in a way I can understand?
  • I feel like I’m falling apart. Why do I keep hurting myself?
  • Why does my injury from ten years ago still hurt?
  • Why should I stop smoking?
  • My doctor says my knee is “‘bone on bone.” What is osteoarthritis?
  • Do I really need a knee replacement?
  • What can I do about my chronic pain?
  • Why can’t I run 10 km anymore?
  • Why can’t I lose weight? What is healthy food?
  • Why is everybody telling me to get fit?
  • Do you actually know how my body works?

For thirty years, Dr. Chris Barnsdale’s patients asked him questions like these and many more. As both a general practitioner and a sports medicine doctor, he struggled to offer satisfying answers, and found that his colleagues did too. During his long commutes to the clinic where he worked, Chris thought a lot about how our bodies work. In his spare time, he gathered more information and started to create stories to help his patients understand what was wrong and how to get better. As he received increasingly positive feedback, he figured it was time to write a book.

Every Body Hurts is the result. This is a book, written in everyday language, about how to make the most of your body. Whether you are fine-tuning it or trying to fix something that is broken, you will gain insights into how your incredible human machine works. Within these pages you will learn basic principles about how and why your body goes wrong, and how to work with your body, not against it, to make the most of what you’ve got.

Learn why: “No pain, no gain, but don’t overtrain” is the new mantra to live by.

I’m not promising that this book will change your life, but it probably will!
